Liefde by die Dam has fast grown to be one of the must attend events in JHB and has most recently delighted Cape Town Music fans with the announcement that they too can now experience the event in all it's glory. Tickets have been flying and are 90% sold out! People are certainly feeling the love. Schalk Bezuidenhout is South Africa's golden boy of comedy and will take in his post again as MC of the event. Here are a few quick Q and A's to catch up with the busy comedian!
Q: You were also MC at Liefde by die Dam in Johannesburg in July. Tell us about the vibe, why should people attend the Cape Town concert at Meerendal on 17 November?
A:Well big outdoor music concerts like this are always fun, especially Liefde by die Dam. I didn't mean for that to rhyme (but I'm stoked it did). So ya, why wouldn't you attend?
Q:Do you find MC work easy or challenging? Have you ever has something strange/interesting happen while on the job?
A:Depends on the gig. Outdoor concerts are a jol because everyone is happy and up for it. I once MC'd at a strip club in Kempton Park in my first year starting out. That was strange/interesting for reasons I can't even explain.
Q:You play the lead in the new, much talked about SA movie Kanarie. Tell us about this experience, what was the most fun part of shooting this movie and what was tough?
A:Most of it was tough. The project was so huge that there wasn't really time for "having fun". Everyone needed to buckle down and be super focused. That said it's always fun working with amazing people. I would urge everyone to go watch this film.
Q: Tell us about your 2018 in Comedy. What were your highlights?
A:I went to London again and did the Soho Theatre which is quite a prestigious venue for comedy. One my last night Eddie Izzard came to watch and we had a chat afterwards. That was a definite highlight.
Q:What`s the funniest joke or one liner that you have ever heard?
A: Normally when people come up to me going "I have a joke for you" I try really hard not to listen. It just upsets me.
Q:What`s on the cards for Schalk Bezuidenhout in 2019?
A: Who's Schalk Bezuidenhout?
